Houston TranStar now boasts 730 CCTVs
Hardy and Fort Bend Toll Road travelers reap benefits

Houston TranStar continues to keep drivers informed of traffic conditions with the installation of Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs) on the Hardy and Fort Bend Toll Roads.

TranStar’s addition of 35 cameras along the Hardy Toll Road and 12 cameras aligned on the Fort Bend Toll Road increases the number of real time traffic cameras in the Houston region to 730. This endeavor advances TranStar’s goals of maximizing safety and providing efficient transportation options for drivers throughout the city.

“Many travelers rely on the Hardy and Fort Bend Toll Roads as their main thoroughfares,” said Houston TranStar Director John R. Whaley. “The addition of traffic cameras along these roadways allows drivers to make informed decisions regarding their commutes.”

CCTV technology provides frequently updated images that travelers can access from TranStar’s award winning website at www.houstontranstar.org. The site offers drivers the ability to view traffic cameras and other information influencing travel decisions such as speeds, travel times, incidents, lane closures, and weather radar.

Houston TranStar is a collaboration between four government agencies that coordinate and enhance transportation and emergency management services, responding to incidents and emergency in Harris County and beyond. Sharing their resources to serve area residents are: the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Harris County, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) and the City of Houston.
