Houston TranStar adds weather radar
Innovation gives public another travel tool

Houston TranStar now offers their Web site users live weather information along with traffic data at Houston TranStar’s award-winning Web site, www.houstontranstar.org.
TranStar’s Real Time Traffic Mapping System, available on both the Bing Maps platform and in the traditional TranStar map format, now gives users the ability to view live weather radar and traffic information on the same map.

“Weather has a major impact on the safety and mobility of travelers in the region, and we want to provide people with a one-stop, reliable source they can use to safely plan their trips,” said Houston TranStar Director John R. Whaley. “When it comes to providing travel information, Houston TranStar continues to stand above the rest.”

The weather data, which was quietly added during recent heavy rainstorm activity, prompted one Web visitor to write, “I have enjoyed and used this site daily for years. Lately all the new features have changed it from great to just awesome! Keep up the good work and thanks for being there for so many of us users.”

Houston TranStar is a collaboration between four government agencies that coordinate and
enhance transportation and emergency management services, responding to incidents and
emergency in Harris County and beyond. Sharing their resources to serve area residents their agencies are the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Harris County, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) and the City of Houston.
