Mayor White to keynote Professional Women’s Gala
Event recognizes 41 award honorees and 12 scholarship recipients

Houston, Texas (Aug. 15, 2007) Don’t miss this year’s Federation of Houston Professional Women (FHPW) ‘Women of Excellence Gala’ celebrating 41 outstanding women in and 12 scholarship recipients next month.

“This year’s gala theme is ‘Dream…Achieve…Inspire…Shaping the City,’ and the women being recognized this year do this every day,” said Helen L. Fox, 2007 gala director. “Join us to hear about the significant impact these women are making in their respective communities.”

FHPW, an alliance of women’s professional organizations, annually presents the Woman of Excellence award, a once-in-a-lifetime award honoring women for their outstanding career accomplishments and community service.

Helping honor the Women of Excellence this year will be Houston Mayor Bill White as keynote speaker.

“Houston is such a great city of opportunity and these women have set examples for us all on how to make the most of that opportunity,” said Mayor Bill White. “It is indeed inspiring.”

The gala is also an opportunity to recognize 12 deserving scholarship recipients. Awarding scholarships and gifts to aid and advance the education and knowledge of women in the community is achieved through the FHPW Educational Foundation.

“It’s the Educational Foundation’s honor to award $17,000 in scholarships to 12 outstanding young women who are pursuing a variety of dreams from veterinary medicine to electrical engineering and mathematics,” said Sheri Parrack, foundation president. “Please attend the gala and meet the recipients and the all volunteer governing Foundation Board who give their time and resources.”

This year’s Women of Excellence gala, which includes dinner and an awards program, will be held Sept. 29 at the Hyatt Regency Downtown, 1200 Louisiana at Polk. Discounted individual seats and tables of 10 are available through Aug. 30. No reservations will be accepted after Sept. 15.
